German Design Award – Special Mention; iF Design Award; Red Dot Design Award
Li Hui Lun
Dual-axis adjustment, a controlled 66-degree beam and CRI 95
This is a selected list based on award records published by SEEDDESIGN and the relevant award organizations. It is not presented as a complete history of every award received by the company.
SEEDDESIGN confirms that SQUARE received German Design Award recognition in 2022, but its published announcement does not identify the specific distinction level. It is therefore listed as “recognition” rather than being assigned an unverified award category.
SEEDDESIGN Red Dot Award Products
SEEDDESIGN’s documented Red Dot award products include the OLO Ring Table Lamp in 2021, SQUARE Pendant in 2022, KONNECT Pendant PV4 in 2023 and WU Wall Sconce in 2024.
Although these products differ in appearance, each uses its physical structure to improve the way the light is directed or controlled. OLO focuses on glare-free adjustable illumination, SQUARE integrates glare control into a minimal linear body, KONNECT uses movable lighting elements, and WU moves between focused and indirect light.
Award-Winning Lighting by Product
HERCULES Floor Lamp: German Design Award 2019
Designed by Chen Chao Cheng, the HERCULES Floor Lamp received a German Design Award 2019 Special Mention.
Its mechanical structure allows users to rotate the shade and adjust the arc of the fixture with a lever. Instead of hiding the adjustment system, HERCULES makes the mechanism part of its visual identity.
The lamp also provides dimming control, connecting its expressive mechanical form with practical directional illumination.
The OLO Ring Table Lamp received the Red Dot Award: Product Design in 2021.
The official Red Dot record identifies the design as the OLO Ø Table Lamp, while the SEEDDESIGN USA catalog uses the name OLO Ring Table Lamp. Both refer to model SLD-130DTE, designed by Li Hui-Lun.
Its hollow circular shade integrates a glare-free LED and rotates up to 290 degrees. A rear opening allows part of the light to diffuse backward, reducing the contrast between the directly illuminated area and the surrounding space. The lamp provides a CRI above 90.
The OLO Ring Table Lamp should not be confused with the later OLO Table Lamp, model SLD-130DLTE, which is a separate product.
Designed by Chen Chao-Cheng, the SQUARE Pendant received the Red Dot Award: Product Design in 2022. SEEDDESIGN also documents German Design Award recognition for SQUARE in the same year.
Its linear body extends downward on both sides to form an integrated anti-glare shield. A sand-gold interior surface creates a warmer reflection while preserving the fixture’s minimal exterior.
SQUARE provides CRI 98 LED illumination and four color-temperature settings: 2700K, 3000K, 3400K and 4000K. Touchless sensors control switching and dimming without adding visible buttons to the streamlined form.
The OLO Pendant PL4 received an iF Design Award in 2022.
Its four circular shades can be rotated to change the direction of the light. This allows the pendant to provide upward or downward illumination while maintaining the ring-based design language of the OLO collection.
The circular composition also references the symbolism of reunion associated with a traditional round dining table. Its product page documents glare-free integrated LED lighting with CRI 90.
Designed by Chang Huan Rou, the KONNECT Pendant PV4 received a Red Dot Award in 2023.
Influenced by modernist architecture, the pendant uses adjustable linear lighting elements to create different compositions. Its quick-release jack allows the light to be directed upward or downward.
KONNECT also documents CRI 98 integrated LED lighting and 0–10V dimming. The visible connections and movable elements make the adjustment mechanism part of the product’s architectural character.
Designed by Li Hui-Lun, the PAOPAO series received an iF Design Award in 2023.
The collection draws inspiration from the organic shapes and changing appearance of bubbles. Its mouth-blown glass is vacuum plated to create a layered, translucent surface.
When unlit, the reflective finish emphasizes the glass form. When illuminated, light passes through the plated surface and produces a softer, hazier glow. The official iF listing also documents integrated CRI 95 LED lighting.
Designed by Li Hui Lun, the WU Wall Sconce received a German Design Award 2024 Special Mention, an iF Design Award and a Red Dot Design Award.
The design began with a practical need. While working from home, Li wanted a personal source of light that could be used without disturbing other people in the room.
WU’s double-shaft structure supports horizontal and vertical adjustment. Its controlled 66-degree beam can provide focused downward light or be directed toward the wall for indirect illumination. The wall sconce also documents CRI 95 warm-white light.
Despite their different forms, the products share several practical design principles.
Adjustable Light Direction
OLO, HERCULES, KONNECT and WU allow users to adjust the position or direction of the light. Their moving components are visible parts of the design rather than concealed technical mechanisms.
Glare Control Through Product Form
The hollow shade of OLO and the extended body of SQUARE help control direct glare. In both products, the recognizable shape contributes to lighting performance instead of functioning only as decoration.
Documented Color Rendering
Several products provide documented CRI values of 90 or above:
OLO Ring Table Lamp: above CRI 90
OLO Pendant PL4: CRI 90
PAOPAO series: CRI 95
WU Wall Sconce: CRI 95
SQUARE Pendant: CRI 98
KONNECT Pendant PV4: CRI 98
These specifications give designers more useful information than a general claim of “high-quality light.” Current specification sheets should still be reviewed before adding a product to a lighting schedule.
Design and Manufacturing Under One Brand
Founded in 1991, SEEDDESIGN develops and manufactures its lighting in-house. Designers, engineers and production teams work together from the initial concept and prototype through manufacturing and final inspection.
This gives the company closer control over materials, construction, finishes and the relationship between a fixture’s appearance and operation.
What to Check Before Specifying Award-Winning Lighting
A design award provides useful evidence of design recognition, but it does not replace technical documentation.
Before specifying a fixture, confirm:
Current availability
Model number and product version
Fixture dimensions
Mounting and electrical requirements
Light output and color temperature
Color Rendering Index
Dimming compatibility
Finish and material options
CAD, Revit or SketchUp files
Specification sheets and IES files
Award records remain part of a product’s design history, while inventory and technical specifications may change. Always review the current product page or contact SEEDDESIGN USA before completing a lighting schedule.
